Knitting contentI finished the lace scarf, after months of hiding it in a plastic bag in the corner. What got me to return to it?
Addi Turbo Lace needles. These things were a godsend for me. The steel Addis were too slippery, the bamboo had too blunt a set of points, and I was basically hating lace. But thanks to the lace Addis, I created this really crappy looking thing.
Y'all have told me about the
magic of blocking. So I blocked.

And now I have a scarf I really really like!

And now for the 20 questions...
1. Name of Project: Feather and Fan lace scarf
2. Pattern Source:
Feather and Fan pattern from Margaret Stove3. Yarn:
Margaret Stove Artisan Lace yarn
4. Fiber: 100% merino
5. Color: Hyacinth, I think.
6. Where did I get the yarn?
Knit Picks, back when they sold other companies' yarns
7. Is it the yarn called for? Yes
8. How long did it take to knit? At least six months, but not continuous work! One month when I set my mind to it.
9. Did I change anything? No, except for the stitch I dropped and had to fix by tying the loose loop to another loop and hoping nobody ever notices it!
10. What would I have done differently? Nothing.
11. Were the instructions clear? Yes.
12. What did I learn? How to knit true lace.
13. Was it worth it? Yes.
14. Would I do it again? I will do more lace, now that I have the right needles for it.
15. What seaming methods were used? None
16. Will I knit with the yarn again? Yes
17. Do I think I’ll wear it? Yes, although I don't have a lot of clothes in the pastel tones of the scarf.
18. Process or Product? Process.
19. Do I have shoes to match? No!
20. Final Thoughts: I can see the appeal of knitting lace, but it can be so tedious!
Non-knitting contentNow that I am back from my conferences, site visits, and all that stuff, I can enjoy my family. Today we went
ollalieberry picking at
Phipps Ranch. This is an annual family tradition, usually involving
Kit, Jamie, and Miranda.
Finding the berries can be a trick. Spot the berries here...

There were only 5 or 6 worth picking on that plant!
There are hazards for this activity: thorns and bugs.

If you do it right, you get rather berry-stained.

And, if you do it right, you have a lot of fun!

It's time for me to bake a few pies!
